Subject: Mono Basin Clearinghouse Updates for 1/9/03
Dear Friends,
I hope you had happy holidays and wish you a happy new year. Along with the new
items listed below, we've also added a testimonials page
(http://www.monobasinresearch.org/praise.htm) so you can read about what others
think of the Clearinghouse, and Past Updates
(http://www.monobasinresearch.org/updates/) so you can delete your old copies of
this update but still look them up if you want to find something you read about
in here.
-----------------------------------------
RAW DATA
Lee Vining weather summaries for Nov, Dec, and the year 2002. November and
December each were the wettest since our internet weather station began keeping
precipitation records in 1998 (since 1996 according to NOAA records). December
snowfall (not measured in these summaries, but measured for NOAA) was 53.5
inches, the most recorded since 1988 in Lee Vining for a single month except
January 1995 and possibly February 1998 (some Feb. 98 days were missing). Lee
Vining's December 2002 snowfall surpassed that of any single month recorded at
the Mono Inn from 1950 to 1988. See http://www.monobasinresearch.org/data/weather.htm
Piezometer Readings updated for 2002- For Lee Vining Creek, I'm using a standard
height above ground for the piezometer and show the changes in ground level over
the years in a separate table. I have not done this yet for Rush Creek--most
heights change in 2002, which makes it hard to compare this year to past years.
I'll fix this soon. Some really interesting dry year trends are showing up! It
is hard to describe the trends without getting into too much detail--you could
look at these graphs for hours. I'd risk saying that we have a foundation for
understanding groundwater dynamics in the Lee Vining Creek bottomlands, for
anyone to build on that wants to spend the time and energy analyzing the data! I
wouldn't say this about Rush Creek yet--a few more high flow years in the
dataset would be nice. See http://www.monobasinresearch.org/data/#HYDROLOGY

LEGAL DOCUMENTS
WB testimony from 1993-94 hearings volumes VII, IX, XII, XXII, XL have been
added (although some data was unrecoverable). Testimony includes Casaday,
Beschta, Tillemans, Calkins, Jehl, Reid, Stine, Kondolf, Vorster, Payne, Li,
Milliron, Parmenter, and Messick. More interesting than Court TV! See http://www.monobasinresearch.org/images/legal/text94.htm
