Subject: Mono Basin Clearinghouse Updates for 9/3/01

Dear Friends,

Just a few brief updates to monobasinresearch.org in the last month or so:

NEW LINK
"Droughts, Epic Droughts and Droughty Centuries--Lessons from California's Paleoclimatic Record" http://meteora.ucsd.edu/paclim/paclim2001.pdf

CURRENT RESEARCH
Mike Perkins from the University of Utah is studying the ash beds of Paoha Island. We have no additional information yet on the research, however we helped him find a boat to get out there in mid-Sept and have listed his research on http://www.monobasinresearch.org/research/. Juha Siikamaki, a post-doctoral researcher from U.C. Davis, is doing an economic study of the water quality benefits of Mono Lake and its tributaries for Caltrans. Also in the works, Victor Schneider from U.C. Davis is revising his gravity study of Black Point, and once finished he will send it to us to post on the Clearinghouse.

RAW DATA
Not usually mentioned in these updates but worth noting is that we post our monthly summary of our Information Center's Lee Vining weather station here: http://www.monobasinresearch.org/data/weather.htm, as soon as we can after the end of each month. We have data going back to 1996. Be aware that this is NOT the official NOAA climate control station also found at our Information Center and the numbers between the two stations don't always precisely agree. It does provide additional data such as wind and humidity and is updated every ten minutes at http://www.monolake.org/live/.

UNSUBSCRIBE
If you would like to unsubscribe to this monthly-or-so email summarizing what's new on the Mono Basin Clearinghouse, email  so I can remove you from the list. Those that would like to subscribe should also send a message to this same address.

Thanks for your interest in Mono Basin Research!
Greg
